OUTSET YOUTH ACTION

Description

Outset Youth Action (Outset) is an independent county wide youth organisation and registered Charity which operates over the whole county of West Sussex.

Outset acts as a volunteering agency for young people aged 13 – 25, encouraging and supporting young people to take on a wide range of volunteering opportunities within their community. The nature of these opportunities is to provide support and benefit to West Sussex communities and contribute to each young person’s own personal development.

Volunteers choose the type of activity they wish to be involved in. Their skills and interests are carefully matched to a wide range of projects in their community.

Outset Youth Action believes that every young person should be recognised for their contribution, no matter how big or small. We think it’s important to give young people the opportunity to reflect on their learning and to identify the skills they have gained through their volunteering experiences.

All Outset volunteers receive a signed certificate giving details of their personal involvement and commitment. Young People aged between 16 - 25 can work towards and receive a nationally recognised award and also complete an ASDAN short course qualification in volunteering.

Outset Youth Action encourages and supports a wide range of young people to volunteer for the benefit of their local community, irrespective of their personal situation. They do not need any qualifications and it will not cost them any money.

Central to Outset’s work is the continuous support given to the volunteers by Outset’s team of Youth Volunteer Advisers. Each district of West Sussex is represented by a Youth Volunteer Advisor who is responsible for the supervision of the volunteering activities of young people drawn from the district.

They are responsible for organising placements and for overseeing matters relating to health and safety. All placements are carefully monitored and risk assessed by Outset to ensure that they are both appropriate and safe for volunteers.

Outset Volunteers don’t need to have had previous volunteering experience – just a commitment to helping others and making a difference in their community.

BULBULIR BASA WELFARE SOCIETY (ORPHANAGE IN KOLKATA)

Description

Helping Needy Children Find A Loving Home Since 2000

The Bulbulir Basa orphanage was found in December 2000, as a direct response to the high levels of homeless children and street children in Kolkata. This orphanage provides a safe and secure environment for these vulnerable children. The orphanage is a loving family atmosphere, dedicated to helping the children build character and advance in academics.

The name "Bulbulir Basa" comes from the word "bulbuli" which is the name of a small, grey, singing bird found in India, and "basa" which means home. The children of this devoted establishment are like little birds, lost and uncared for, with no place to call home. This orphanage welcomes them to a home that gives them a family.

Bulbulir Basa is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious society. It is registered in the West Bengal Societies Registration Act (registration number S/IL/3311). We also have a Tax exemption & FCRA (Foreign Contribution Registration Act) papers from Government of India.

Come join our family by volunteering and experience something life changing.

Objectives of the Orphanage:

1) To maintain a safe and pleasant environment for abandoned children and care for all their needs, including medical, education and cultural. The children will attend school and recieve classes in Bengali music and arts in order to strengthen cultural ties.

2) To promote and encourage the advancement of literacy. A free coaching center will be maintained at Bulbulir Basa for street children.

3) To help the sick, aged and destitute. The on site dispensary will offer free medical treatment to people of all ages and religions in the community.

The goal for which the Bulbulir Basa society was established will benefit the orphans and with your support it can become reality. Shelter, education, health and culture are the main activities in our orphanage.

Africa ICT Right (AIR) is an ICT-oriented NGO established in 2007 and run by a team of volunteers. AIR was established in order to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to address critical national problems pertaining to education, gender, youth empowerment and health in Ghana.

AIR was created out of the belief that the modern world is in the midst of a profound technological revolution where personal computers, mobile phones and Internet technologies play a critical role but there is great inequality in the distribution of these tools, which is detrimental not only to underserved communities, but also to our society.

We partner with donors, governmental and private institutions, NGOs and local communities to address this detriment through our integrated development programs that provide technological solutions and support to educational and health facilities especially in less privileged areas where the digital gap is most pronounced.

INTERNATIONAL CHINA CONCERN

Description

Love, Hope and Opportunity for Every Disabled Child

International China Concern (ICC) is a Christian development organisation that changes lives by bringing love, hope and opportunity to China’s abandoned and disabled. Founded in 1993 by David Gotts, International China Concern exists to help the disadvantaged live life to the full and to their God-given potential. Although China is experiencing rapid economic growth, there remains a deficit in social welfare for the disadvantaged, especially the disabled. In many welfare centres the mortality rate remains high and for those who survive, the future is bleak. For 22 years, International China Concern has partnered with the Chinese government to develop social welfare for the abandoned and disabled. Our reputation and relationships in China place us in an excellent position to not only provide services and homes for life but also empower Chinese nationals to see lives saved, families supported, communities transformed and attitudes changed.

Volunteer Opportunities

Since 1993 International China Concern has taken teams of people from all around the world, to serve in China's orphanages. Teams are made up of people from different backgrounds, cultures, ages and experience - but all have a heart to care for China's disadvantaged children. You do not have to be a professional - If you can hug a child, play with a child, pray with a child or help meet their basic needs, then you qualify. Past team members describe their time in China as - "enriching, ministering, touching, hilarious, everlasting", and "a life changing experience".
