The Angkor Tree Project

Description

The Angkor Tree Project is a free English language school for children of the poorest families in one of the outskirts of Siem Reap, minutes away from stunning Unesco World Heritage Angkor Wat. Knowledge of English is a first step out of poverty for families that often survive on an income of less than 1 us$ per day.
At the Angkor Tree Project children not only get language classes, but the ones that did not have breakfast at home get a meal, there is fresh drinkable water, children can play and enjoy, and that is what kids should do. The Angkor Tree Project keeps the children away from working in the field, from selling souvenirs to tourists, from collecting empty cans to complement the family income ...
Classes are from Monday to Friday leaving volunteer teachers plenty of time to explore the city and region.
We expect a good knowledge of English. Those without teaching experience will assist a local teacher ; playing games with the kids, working in smaller groups ... Those with more experience can take a more advanced class where we mainly focus on conversation skills.
It's a volunteer job, so we offer no salary, but of course you don't need to pay anything.
We offer accommodation (room with aircon, fan and bathroom), WiFi, bike, and breakfast.for 4 us$ per day, but the volunteer is free to choose any accommodation in town.

VOLUNTEER IN CAMBODIA

Description

Volunteer in Cambodia recruits volunteers to teach at Conversations with Foreigners (CWF), a local conversational English-language centre in Phnom Penh, forming a unique model of learning and cultural exchange to raise money for the Cambodian Rural Development Team (CRDT), a local non-government organisation (LNGO) working to improve livelihoods with rural communities. Vision: A self-sufficient CRDT working to improve livelihoods with rural communities in Cambodia. Mission: To provide conversational English-language courses and support quality volunteer experiences while raising money for CRDT's work. The difference: In many volunteer programmes, you are working directly with the poorest people. When volunteering with us at CWF, you are not. Your students can at least afford money to study more fortunate than many. Instead, you are contributing to the long-term sustainability of CRDT - Cambodian experts experienced in rural development - to work to improve livelihoods with rural communities. Rural communities make up 80% of Cambodia’s population. We believe this model of volunteer programme is more sustainable for rural communities and Cambodia. CRDT formed in 2001 to undertake development projects which improve the living standards of subsistence communities in rural Cambodia. All CRDT members are university educated, yet all are from rural backgrounds and therefore share a unique understanding of the hardship and poverty which face many remote communities in Cambodia. The team spend the majority of their time living and working in the villages directly with beneficiaries.

Description

Me and you child aid project (MAYCAP) is a registered community based organization in Buikwe community of Uganda. It was started by a group of devoted and children loving persons to see to it that these children of God get the best needs as any other children.
Me and you child aid project works in children whose rights have been abused, orphans, HIV/AIDS affected children, street children within our area of operation. This organization was started to help children in the community so I came up with this idea for orphan children, HIV/AIDs infected, vulnerable children in our community since a lot of these children were not getting education. This area is comprised of 400 house holds of which 57% have been infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. And 70% of the families are run by sickly jobless windows and elderly, 60% of the school going children in this local council:
1. Do not go to school due to lack of funds for school fees, scholastic materials and proper guidance. This problem has turned this community into a den of law – breakers, a street- kid’s factory and a young generation into a public nuisance which has hindered the progress of development in the area and contributed to the factors of spreading HIV/AIDS Virus in the community.
The organization have rendered services to a certain extent ie. Universal Primary Education program but the problem is still persistent. If we pay the school dues, provide the scholastic materials, we shall have revived the children’s morale for going to school and alleviated the problem of school drop outs.
a.) VISION:
Children living in a community that is socially and economically developed using the little resources available.
b)MISSION:
Giving hope to orphans, needy, vulnerable and medical care, education for development.
