BULBULIR BASA WELFARE SOCIETY (ORPHANAGE IN KOLKATA)

Description

Helping Needy Children Find A Loving Home Since 2000

The Bulbulir Basa orphanage was found in December 2000, as a direct response to the high levels of homeless children and street children in Kolkata. This orphanage provides a safe and secure environment for these vulnerable children. The orphanage is a loving family atmosphere, dedicated to helping the children build character and advance in academics.

The name "Bulbulir Basa" comes from the word "bulbuli" which is the name of a small, grey, singing bird found in India, and "basa" which means home. The children of this devoted establishment are like little birds, lost and uncared for, with no place to call home. This orphanage welcomes them to a home that gives them a family.

Bulbulir Basa is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious society. It is registered in the West Bengal Societies Registration Act (registration number S/IL/3311). We also have a Tax exemption & FCRA (Foreign Contribution Registration Act) papers from Government of India.

Come join our family by volunteering and experience something life changing.

Objectives of the Orphanage:

1) To maintain a safe and pleasant environment for abandoned children and care for all their needs, including medical, education and cultural. The children will attend school and recieve classes in Bengali music and arts in order to strengthen cultural ties.

2) To promote and encourage the advancement of literacy. A free coaching center will be maintained at Bulbulir Basa for street children.

3) To help the sick, aged and destitute. The on site dispensary will offer free medical treatment to people of all ages and religions in the community.

The goal for which the Bulbulir Basa society was established will benefit the orphans and with your support it can become reality. Shelter, education, health and culture are the main activities in our orphanage.

AIR was created out of the belief that the modern world is in the midst of a profound technological revolution where personal computers, mobile phones and Internet technologies play a critical role but there is great inequality in the distribution of these tools, which is detrimental not only to underserved communities, but also to our society.

We partner with donors, governmental and private institutions, NGOs and local communities to address this detriment through our integrated development programs that provide technological solutions and support to educational and health facilities especially in less privileged areas where the digital gap is most pronounced.

Though similar to many other coffee-producing communities at high elevations, San Gerardo is unique in being the jumping-off point for hikers and nature lovers wishing to explore Mt Chirripo – the highest peak in Costa Rica, and the second highest in Central America.

Whether you are here for a week or living in San Gerardo permanently there are volunteer opportunities available for you!

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, to contribute in a meaningful way to your community, or to spend time on your vacation really getting to know the culture, the people and the language of Costa Rica.

Proyecto San Gerardo is actively recruiting volunteers for opportunities in community development and education in San Gerardo de Rivas and surrounding villages. We also welcome volunteers in Vancouver, Canada for our Board and online volunteers who can help with writing and website design/maintenance.

Proyecto San Gerardo was founded in 2007 to address the unequal access to education and better paid jobs for rural Costa Ricans. We also provide high school and university scholarships to around 10 students a year to help them stay in school and encourage girls to consider higher education. We maintain an active local website: www.sangerardocostarica.com which informs visitors about the area and shares information about local services.

Our graduates have gone on to further education, to local tourism jobs that utilize their new language and technical skills, and many have stayed in the area now they can access better paid jobs without having to go to the city.

NES AMMIM (COMMUNAL VILLAGE IN ISRAEL)

Description

Nes Ammim is an international Christian community and village in Israel's Northwest Galilee, located 10 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. It aims to contribute to the creation of a new relationship between Jews and Christians following centuries of alienation and ignorance. The name Nes Ammim means 'a banner to or for the nations' and is taken from two quotations in the Book of Isaiah (11:10 and 62:10). In 2013 it celebrated its golden jubilee as a community after being established in the early sixties. The establishment was realized by a group of Christians who had lived through the horrors of World War II and the Nazi holocaust in continental Europe. Nes Ammim is the product of a dream - a dream of a radically new and positive relationship between Christians and Jews based upon mutual trust and respect. This excludes any thought of missionary activity directed at the Jewish people. The founders of Nes Ammim believe that such a relationship is not only possible, but absolutely essential. Surrounded by Jewish kibbutzim and Muslim and Druze villages, Nes Ammim is an ecumenical Christian community whose members and volunteers represent a broad spectrum of Christian tradition. It is a learning, serving, working and worshipping community. Its main commercial business is its kosher guest house for up to 170 guests (80% Israeli guests). However, real estate activities are also carried out with the construction, sales and renting of 91 house for locals and solar energy plans exist for the nearby future. The Centre for Learning and Dialogue (available for all volunteers) offers language courses, culturally enriching activities such as trips throughout the State of Israel, museum visits and more. It runs an annual work programme for young European students and includes a systematic encounter with Israel, Judaism and the roots of Christian faith. The majority of Nes Ammim’s inhabitants speak English as a second language. In case of any questions, please contact us.
