Fast Forward (Positive Lifestyles) is a national voluntary organisation promoting health and wellbeing with, by and for young people. We have been working with young people, volunteers and communities across Scotland since 1987. We develop and promote peer education for young people and run Scotland’s Peer Education Network (SPEN).
We provide health and substance misuse education for young people, train staff working with them, recruit and develop volunteers and produce resources and publications. We help young people understand the facts about drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sexual health and knife crime, promoting informed choices that can change lives. Fast Forward promotes the peer education model and recruits, train and supports volunteers from all backgrounds.
The volunteer opportunities can be varied - from involvement in delivering education and prevention sessions around substance use, to peer education, resource development, marketing and publicity. This is all dependent on the skills, abilities and interests of the volunteer. There are a particular need for a volunteer with experience of creative web based marketing and promotion. We also recruit young volunteers (16 to 25) directly to train as peer educators in health and substance use issues.
We work with protected characteristics and vulnerable groups including pupils with emotional, social and behavioural problems and the BME community. Fast Forward is a member of the SCVO, YouthLink, EADP, The Scottish Drugs Forum, ELREC, Edinburgh Youth Issues Forum and ASH Scotland, and follows the national standards established by the Curriculum for Excellence and Getting it Right for Every Child.
