Oyster is a specialist and very personal company which aims to help people make the most of their gap year. We offer a variety of voluntary programmes abroad for individuals and families. They are designed to be challenging and to give our participants new skills and experiences. They are also intended to benefit the host country. Your skills, new ideas and simple hard work are always much appreciated.
We offer voluntary teaching projects in Chile, Nepal, Laos and Tanzania, and opportunities to volunteer with children in a youth centre or as a sports coach in Brazil and South Africa. We also run teaching programmes in China or Thailand (following the completion of a TEFL qualification). In Romania, you can volunteer in a children’s hospital and care home, gain valuable medical experience as you work within a mobile medical unit, or join animal welfare specialists on a project to help captive bears.
If you are interested in working with animals, we run many different animal and wildlife conservation programmes across the world. Travel to Thailand on a diving and marine conservation project, or volunteer with elephants, with turtles, or at a wildlife sanctuary in this country. In South Africa, you can complete a veterinary internship or game ranger course, or volunteer with lions, sharks, monkeys, elephants or the Big 5 on a private game reserve. With also have opportunities to volunteer with bears, orangutans, monkeys, elephants and turtles in Borneo and Malaysia, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Laos and Costa Rica.
In the Galapagos Islands, Australia and New Zealand, we offer environmental conservation projects where volunteers can get involved in planting trees, building footpaths and cleaning beaches. We also run a surf development course in Australia, and ski and snowboard instructor courses in Canada, Romania and France.
For those interested in applying for medicine at university, or already studying or working as a medic, we offer medical internships in India and Romania, where volunteers with an interest are able to gain valuable and worthwhile experience for their CV.
