Cheetah Experience Ashia

Description

Founded in 2016 Cheetah Experience Ashia is a 35 hectares working agricultural farm supporting environmental values and with a strong focus on the conservation of endangered big and small cats, but in particular cheetahs.
Cheetah Experience Ashia offers a tranquil home and sanctuary to its hand-raised ambassador cheetahs, including the retired or unique cheetahs who need extra love and attention as they could not survive in the wild.
Volunteers have the opportunity to come and join us in our conservation efforts, getting hands-on experience working with our animals on a farm, whilst spending time with people that share a love and passion for new experiences and at the same time supporting the fight of an endangered animal.
Volunteers work alongside our family of experienced and knowledgeable staff, doing the same daily work they do, thus giving volunteers an amazing opportunity to have up close and personal experiences with our animals, whilst learning on a daily basis.
The volunteer programmes give you the freedom to volunteer for as long as you like; for shorter periods or extended stays depending on your requirements. Volunteers can choose to lodge in our volunteer house or our working holiday volunteers have the option to stay in our separate units for a more relaxing stay. Breakfast and lunch is provided, and volunteers have two days off per week to explore Cape Town and the surrounding Winelands area.
Cheetah Experience Ashia is fully supportive of all ethical research projects that will assist in the conservation of the cheetah now and in the future, as well as other studies that are of a conservation, environmental or tourism nature. To this end Cheetah Experience Ashia has relationships in place with universities in South Africa and Europe and encourages students to explore research options with us, whether data collection and studies for undergraduate dissertations or Masters / PhD. Experienced staff members offer mentoring, guidance and assistance to students conducting research projects and facilitate requirements around everyday activities.
“With our volunteer programmes, you’ll have once in a lifetime opportunities, as well as memories and friendships to last you for many years to come.”

people and places, an international award winning organisation, provides well-matched, rewarding, challenging and safe experiences for volunteers and local people – with their mutual informed consent.

Volunteers’ skills and experience are matched specifically to the projects’ needs – we put the right people in the right places, at the right time.

people and places is a social enterprise and is not run for the benefit of shareholders.

At least 80% of volunteers' funds are spent in the host country – and volunteers know HOW and WHERE their money is spent.

people and places matches skills and experience to need – our role is to enable both volunteers and local communities to gain mutual benefits. Crucial to this role are our relationships with our local partners.

The planning and development of projects is through our local partners, our project management teams – people who are inspired and inspiring, and who are in and of their community – they are the ongoing link with projects and volunteers, thus maintaining sustainable development and continuity in the project.

Volunteers are fully involved in the planning of their own individual placement – we match their skills to the project’s needs; we discuss the project’s proposals with the volunteers; with mutual agreement, the volunteer’s placement is confirmed.

EXIS

Description

EXIS is your ticket to put together a different kind of travel experience. EXIS got started in 1982 with restlessness and an urge to ramble – before globalization was a household word and the world could be Googled in five seconds. EXIS made sure nearly 30 years ago that Danish au pairs could drink tea on the High Street in London – and now offers unique language study and voluntary work on five continents. You can probably still be an au pair, but a lot of travellers think it is just as exciting to tend elephants in Sri Lanka, help out at an orphanage in Costa Rica, work with Masai women in Tanzania, teach English to young Buddhist monks in Thailand or work on conservation in the Grand Canyon, USA. EXIS’ philosophy is still the same – to make it possible for you to satisfy your curiosity and thirst for adventure. We work with partners all over the world to build the most secure starting gate for unique experiences – and you take it from there! Forget all about the world getting smaller. It’s bigger than ever and right within your reach. Join the world... it's yours !

AFRICAN IMPACT

Description

As GoAbroad's Top Rated Volunteer Abroad Organization in 2016, African Impact is now a multi-award winning volunteer travel organization that is operating responsible and sustainable volunteer projects and internship programs throughout Southern and East Africa. We have over 16 years’ experience and have facilitated over 12,000 volunteers in 12 countries across the continent!

OUR VISION:

To maximise the positive force of volunteering and make sure our volunteers have a fun and rewarding adventure with us. We truly believe that volunteering has the power to change lives; we’ve seen it first-hand.
We aiming to integrate ourselves into the community from grassroots to partnerships with local governments and strive to nurture a culture of mutual respect.

Our volunteer experiences are based on three key things:

- We want our volunteers to have an amazing time experiencing everything Africa has to offer and leave knowing they’ve contributed to something bigger than themselves.

- We want our volunteers to learn as much as they can about local history, culture and wildlife

- We want to support local communities and conservation efforts through education and hands-on help.

Our Charity: The Happy Africa Foundation

As part of our commitment to making a positive impact, we set up The Happy Africa Foundation in 2008. The charity helps to independently monitor our projects and provides tools and expertise that help to ensure our sustainability. The charity also ensures that donations given by our volunteers are managed responsibly.

Our Wildlife Trust: ALERT

African Impact were also instrumental in the establishment of the African Lion and Environmental Research Trust (ALERT) in 2005, a non-profit organization dedicated to the facilitation and promotion of sound conservation and management plans for the African lion in consultation with governments, wildlife authorities and communities.

Alongside African Impact, ALERT also aims to support the ground-breaking four-stage African Lion Rehabilitation and Release into the Wild Program developed by our founders in 1999.

Our Projects

To ensure the sustainability of our projects, we thoroughly evaluate each potential project with a detailed scorecard before setting up a volunteering program. This involves analysing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of a project as well as its long-term viability and impact. Also, every single one of our projects has community stakeholders. We won’t run a project unless the community not only wants us there, but actually has ownership of the project. Community buy-in is essential.

We have a core emphasis on learning and empowerment for all involved – changing the lives of people in the communities we impact, our volunteers and all African Impact staff.

About Us:

Volunteer in South Africa was founded by Mandy Ann Weschta in 2007. A Boy by the name of Jason, Came running past Mandy’s House and Stole her Cell phone from her staircase whilst she was washing her car.

The neighbours next to Mandy’s house saw the little boy stealing her phone and they got in the car to go and drive after the boy. They also called the police. The police happened to be in the area and the police car and the neighbour both found the boy in an alley way near to Mandy’s house. They took the boy back to the house with Mandy’s Phone.

Mandy asked the police what they were going to do with the boy now that he had stolen her phone. The police said they were going to have to punish the boy (because he was under the age to go to jail). At that moment Mandy remembered the verse: LUKE 4:18, The spirit of The Lord is on me because he has anointed me to preach the Good news the Poor. The police were just about to drive off with the little boy Jason. Mandy ran after them and asked them to stop the car and let the boy out the police van. I told the police that I would take care of the Boy (Jason). Mandy had a one on one chat with the Boy Jason and I told him that he had made a mistake by stealing her cell phone and even although he had stolen her cell phone she forgave him and Jesus forgive him. Mandy told him it was not the right thing to do and God Gets very sad when we steal. Mandy told the boy how much God loved him and how much God wants the best for him. She also told him that when he feels alone, then God is watching him and comforting him in those times.

That day, Mandy decided to take Jason Surfing. Jason ended up being a Great surfer. He was not attending school at the time, so Mandy told him that if he went back to school then he would be able to surf every-day. Jason loved this idea and started going back to school. The following week he brought 30 of his Street friends to come and surf. This is when Mandy saw a Great Potential to change the Community.

Mandy then made a rule that if they went to school every-day then she would collect them from school (after school) and teach 3 of them to surf a day. This is when Volunteer in South Africa was Launched. At that time Mandy owned a Surf lodge in Muizenberg (called abreakaway) she then decided to change her surf lodge into a Volunteer house. (To impact the community and add HOPE into many less Privileged children’s lives).

Since then Volunteer in South Africa has grown to 7 locations (with more to come) and SUPERSPORT has sponsored the sports Groups with Sports Gear. Mandy has come along side many more Sports Projects providing them with Volunteers and finances to run their projects.

Mandy says ‘My aim was to impact the less Privileged children’s lives in South Africa and Africa at Large’ I always have had a heart to reach out to the people in need and add HOPE into their lives. It’s so good to see that God has used me to reach out to many areas in South Africa and Africa, God is using me as a tool to Impact many less Privileged People’s lives throughout Africa now.

Since I started teaching the street children Surfing in 2007 we have seen many children going back to school and becoming some-thing in this LIFE. We have also built an Orphan school in the township, waterproofed many people’s homes from the bad weather, we have partnered with many projects that need help and support and since I started Volunteer in South Africa over 2500 children and Youth and adults have come to the Lord and are attending church in their local area.

We have taught 1200 children to surf and 300 boys to play soccer and 600 children how to swim so far. We have helped many people with food by going house to house in the townships (slums): offering food to people and Counselling to them. I am so blessed to be able to reach out to the less Privileged people of Africa and South Africa and add HOPE into their lives.

Thank-you to the people that have believed in me and supported me to do God’s work. We are a faith based Organisation, so whatever God brings is what we use to keep the projects maintained and Running. If you decide to sponsor a child to go to school then the cost is +-$150 a year for their uniform and shoes and books and school fees. We will then keep you updated on the child progress. If you decide to sponsor feeding a family (that has no food) then the cost is +-$40 a month. Any donations you can make to help the less Privileged will help. When making a payment through PayPal or into our Bank account, then you can let us know how you would like us to keep in touch with you. We will then let you know what your donation has been used for. All and any donations are much appreciated by the less Privileged people.

Our team is based in South Africa and provides every volunteer with unparalleled support and personal attention during their stay. Having an experienced and caring support base close at hand is a valuable benefit that has provided reassurance to all our volunteers (and their parents!).

We are strong advocates for ethical volunteering and responsible tourism practices and evaluate every project thoroughly to ensure they are not linked to the mistreatment of children or wildlife in any way.

By creating awareness for real conservation efforts, we also help volunteers to avoid unethical activities like riding elephants, 'lion-cub petting' and 'walking with lions', the latter two of which are essential ingredients for the abhorrent canned lion hunting industry.

Our dedicated team has 14 years of hands-on experience working directly with projects and organizing placements for thousands of volunteers from nearly 60 countries.

We are certified South African specialists and are on hand to ensure that your volunteering adventure is the best it can be with expert advice on every aspect of your stay.

Description

The Wildlife For All Trust is a pioneering environmental charity. Our work includes conserving endangered species and habitats in the UK and in South Africa. We also provide important free education for both adults and young people.
Unlike most charities we purposely work non-paid (supporting ourselves with other paid work). This allows us to ensure that all the money which would normally be used up on salaries is actually spent where it is really needed.
We are highly successful in what we do, and the key to our success is attitude. We provide comprehensive training for all our staff which has produced very positive practical results over many years. Komsberg Wilderness Nature Reserve in South Africa is an outstanding example of what can be achieved by our unique approach.

AFRICAID – WHIZZ KIDS UNITED

Description

Vision: To create an AIDS-free generation Mission: To harness the power of football to engage and educate kids how to lead successful, HIV free lives. HIV /AIDS is the number one global health challenge, and in the absence of a cure, prevention has to be the main stay in the struggle against AIDS. Africaid has created a truly unique HIV prevention 'package called WhizzKids United (WKU). WKU has been founded on the principal that knowledge alone will not prevent HIV. Instead kids are taught life-skills that inform, motivate and influence their behaviour bringing about a positive behavioural change designed to prevent new HIV infections. By combining each life skill with football, integrating it fully into the programme, and playing on their love for the beautiful game, ensures the kids are fully engaged and has the potential to truly create an AIDS free generation. We are an official Implementing Partner of FIFA’s Football For Hope Movement and hope to capitalize on the 2010 FIFA World Cup by harnessing the passion Africa has for football to address Africa’s biggest challenge, HIV, and in doing so bring about a bright AIDS free future for the next generation of football lovers. In terms of the recruitment of volunteers, we are really only looking at this stage to recruit for our Centre of Excellence or Head Office which is based on Clarence Road in Durban. Our new offices are complete with onsite football pitch where we will train our trainers, run our life skills programme with Clarence Primary School and look to use the field to run tournaments. In terms of scope of work and what volunteers would be required to do, we need to make it clear that for the most part it is office based, although there would be some exposure to the kids on the programme, rather it was through visits to the sites we operate in or through helping at one of the many tournaments we run to celebrate their graduation through the programme. Broadly there are three teams that they may work on; depending on their skill set and also what volunteer requirements / needs we have at the time. They may in fact work across all teams. The three teams are the CEO’s team, which covers strategic vision, project expansion, fundraising, marketing and PR and Events, there is the Programme Management who are responsible for the roll out of the programme management of trainers and school liaison, and then there is Research and Evaluation, which handles both internal and external evaluation to ensure we have measurable results for our programme and also how we can look to improve the programme.
