PROFILE
AIM ABROAD is a non government, non profitable organisation. Everybody knows that India is a poor country and people from India hardly travel abroad so when volunteers come to stay with an Indian community and travel around they may be accompanied by their host family from one place to another. It gives them inner satisfaction even for volunteers, it is a wonderful experience to be with different community. They can learn to cook Indian food, attend Indian marriages, can wear traditional dress, etc. To come to India as a tourist and stay in hotel does not always give a true picture of India. The concept of staying with a host family provides a safe environment for volunteers, especially girls. They have hygienic Indian food. Volunteers can learn languages (Hindi, Bengali, Nepalese). We have kept volunteering costs very nominal and some of it goes to the charity - for orphan girls, blind people, leprosy community etc. As an English instructor, your classes will be filled with the enthusiastic students. Teaching English in India also offers exceptional opportunities to build a career in teaching and explore Indian culture, hospitality and people. You will teach approximately 24 hrs hours a week and participate in developing and planning English camps, trips, and other activities with teachers and students to practice conversational English. Volunteers working in the orphanage will be involved in teaching basic English in the ordinary school, drawing, organising games, singing, dancing, theatre and sporting activities. General care of the children is also required. Working at an orphanage requires love for children, maturity, and self-discipline. Mentally retarded children usually are not able to follow verbal commands as swiftly and show academic backwardness. They are often lost in their own world. They are poor in ADL (activities of daily living, i.e. combing, brushing teeth, buttoning / unbuttoning shirt or trousers, money transaction etc). Volunteers will help these special people to lead a full normal life such as work, recreation, culture, friendship, and family. A residential community for visually impaired children and youth provides education and material and emotional resources such as education, work, recreation, culture, friendship, and family that these special people need to lead a full normal life, A work-and-live situation, your job will involve reading from the text books so that they understand and learn, preparing the residents to face exams, offering moral support, and providing company to the inhabitants of the house. Our information campaigns about leprosy in high risk areas are crucial so that patients and their families, who were historically ostracized from their communities are encouraged to come forward and receive treatment. The most effective way of preventing disabilities in leprosy, as well as preventing further transmission of the disease, lies in early diagnosis and treatment with MDT. Presence of volunteers among them will boost their moral to lead a normal life in the society. Most of the rural women are illiterate. The goal of this project is to teach women personal hygiene, basic calculations, basic computer skills, knitting and stitching, basic English, to gain the ability to analyse their own situation and use their knowledge to make changes when necessary. Aim Abroad also offers volunteers the chance to work on an ambulance. As a part of this team you will be accompanied by a team of doctors and pharmacists. The goal of this project is to reach the ailing population in remote and rural areas where health services are beyond their reach. You will distribute medicines, and you will share your time, energy, and skills to support the people and offer them encouragement and hope. We are not able to accept volunteers with an offending background.
